Opening session will update attendees on reform issues being discussed this year at the state capital.  The discussion will include where the past changes are today (pros and cons) as well as insights into where any new changes may lead us.

            Workshop #1Controlled Prescription Drugs in the Workplace

Discussion will center on the controlled prescription drug epidemic in the US, how the epidemic impacts workers’ compensation and methods to mitigate this problem, as well as the roles of all stakeholders (employer, injured worker, nurse case manager, claims handler, PBM, Peer to Peer Review, Drug UR, Urine drug monitoring) and best practices.

            Workshop #2 Functional Capacity Evaluations Explained

An explanation of the protocol for most FCEs and comparison of the different types of tests available in the Chicagoland market.  What elements make a quality FCE, how to analyze the results, and when the test should be requested.  Live demonstrations of the FCE testing to improve understanding of the testing process.

            Workshop #3 Dealing with OSHA Enforcement and Regulations

Today’s OSHA is deeply focused on enforcement.  Increased penalties and public shaming through broad press releases are methods to “encourage” compliance.  Be sure your organization is ready if OSHA shows up for an inspection.  Includes updated information on changed OSHA laws and guidance.

11:15 – 12:05 pm Second Series of Workshops

Workshop #1: Integrated Case Management: Mitigating Cost Drivers in Workers’ Compensation Cases

Review of current trends and cost drivers in WC cases and how an integrated case management approach can mitigate costs of the claim. Will include what the claims handler should monitor for, which cost drivers need to be monitored more closely and how to use this information for predictive modeling.

Workshop #2: OSHA Compliance and How It Relates to Workers‘ Compensation

As OSHA’s safety and health standards continue to expand, the impact on the increase of areas covered under states‘ workers’ compensation laws continues to grow as well. This workshop will discuss those effects and what employers in Illinois need to know.
